GO GREEN was The Student Coordinating Team’s identity project for the S.Y. 2008-2009. It consisted of various programs strategically placed in the academic calendar and aimed to promote environmental awareness and stewardship to paulinians of the HS department.
1. ALARMING FACTS: Every Wednesday of the first/second quarter, HS students were able to hear alarming facts over the PA system about our environment such as the tons and tons of garbage we produce a year, the number of animals who die because of loss of habitat, etc. This hopefully raised their consciousness on their actions that affect the environment.
2. GOING ZERO: SCT ‘08-‘09 also pushed for a campaign against the use of styrofoam containers and plastic straws. Posters all over the HS buildings were posted discouraging everyone to stop the use of such materials that are harmful to our environment. Also, efforts of banning the concessionaires’ use of these materials were started through a letter to the Executive Officer for Student services.
3. TRASH SEGREGATION IMPROVEMENT: trash bins were re-labeled and relocated so as to encourage everyone to throw their trash to the proper receptacle. Also, THINK BEFORE YOU THROW and CLEAN AS YOU GO campaigns were pushed for.
4. MANILA BAY CLEAN-UP: As a culminating event for this project, a venue for concrete environmental action was opened by the SCT to student and faculty volunteers. See http://gogrowglow.tumblr.com/post/390596808/manila-bay-clean-up-was-a-project-of-sct-08-09 for more details.
CREDITS TO CARLEEN REYES FOR THE PHOTOS :)
SPCP TWILIGHT MOVIE PREMIERE
This project was one of those that really defined SCT ‘08-‘09 for it was the first ever movie premiere of St. Paul College, Pasig. It raised more than php200,000 net worth of funds for the construction of the SPCP complex. Not only that, it also gave the Pasig paulinians the privilege to see this most awaited film of 2008 ahead of the rest! :)
HS HOMEROOM LEADERSHIP TRAINING ‘08
This activity was organized by the Highschool department homeroom area, assisted by the Student Coordinating Team. It provided the perfect venue for the class officers to develop their leadership through talks and activities that are not just helpful but fun as well! This leadership training also served as a team building opportunity for the student leaders of each class that hopefully lead them into working harmoniously as one team.
Building a strong foundation on leadership is the perfect way of developing a stronger and more disciplined student body :)
CAMPUS TOURS FOR KOREAN, CHINESE and JAPANESE EXCHANGE STUDENTS
S.Y. 2008-2009 was full in terms of exchange programs with various schools in Asia. As Filipinos, it is very important for us to make our guests feel at home. It is the Student Coordinating Team officers that make sure the visitors won’t be lost and feel alienated in the campus. And so, aside from the welcome ceremonies especially prepared for them, the SCT tours each group around the SPCP campus, showing them the different facilities and areas in the school.
It is quite a challenge for us to communicate since most of them do not speak nor understand English that well but it felt good that we were able to make a connection to them and somehow helped them feel welcome :)
D-DAY: FRESHMEN WELCOME PROGRAM
Highschool can be tough, but nothing will be too hard if you have a family that supports and encourages you ;) This is the message of the Freshmen welcome program, organized by the Student Coordinating Team (Student council), which showcased performances from different performing groups in the HS department. It is important that new members of the family feel they are accepted and loved :D
As you may observe, we’ve been uploading various photos of the different projects that the Student Coordinating Team ‘09 (Student Council of SPCP) organized. Being the president of the said Student Council, the projects implemented reflect my leadership that is really defined by ACTION and not WORDS.
I hope you could find time to browse through them and read the description to fully understand how I am as a leader :)
THANK YOU AND ENJOY B-)
RELIEF DRIVE for the victims of Typhoon Frank
It is very important for a person to not only be academically competent but also, socially aware and morally upright. It is but proper that student leaders be the ones to initiate means of responding to others’ needs.
